Forecast: Hazy (& juicy). Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus returns this spring

Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus can

If you are a brewery that just invested thousands in a new centrifuge, the news lately might sting a little bit. Hazy IPA is now an official style according to the Brewers Association. The style is basically here to stay.  Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus, a hazy IPA that was very popular last year, will return this spring.

Think of this beer as a hop showcase. Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus brings Amarillo, Citra, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops into play, at nearly 4 pounds per barrel. If you are in the hops purchasing business, that translates to expensive.

For the drinker, those hops mean an imperial India pale ale big on citrus, passionfruit, and kiwi. “Trop hops” as we call them. The beer is unfiltered and hazy, which means a glass of resiny, juicy goodness. Not to overuse the terms hazy and juicy, but that’s what Terrapin brings to the table in this new can. 12 ounces of juicy citrus, meant to be consumed as soon as possible.

Cumulus Lupulus is a great big juicy super hopped up unfiltered IPA with tropical fruit notes throughout the entire beer, from aroma to finish. – “Spike”, Terrapin Co-Founder & Brewmaster

Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus will return in the spring of 2018 in 12-ounce cans and draft. The brewery will again stagger market releases to ensure freshness.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Amarillo, Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.

Terrapin Chopsecutioner, aged on baseball bats leads off in cans this season

Terrapin Chopsecutioner can

Terrapin Chopsecutioner was born at the brewery’s baseball brewhouse Suntrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, last season. This month, the beer steps up to the plate in cans for the first time.

Maybe drinking 7.3% ABV IPA for 9 innings of baseball in a hot city like Atlanta isn’t recommended. Terrapin Chopsecutioner is here to help. The Athens, Georgia based brewery has a new 5 barrel pilot system at Suntrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves and is the birthplace of this unique beer.

RELATED: First Look: Terrapin ATL BrewLab

Attendees to Suntrust Park this summer will see quite a few unique recipes coming out of the new ATL BrewLab, starring with Chopsecutioner, which is actually aged on Mizuno wood bat chips. The hop lineup is the same as the bigger Hopsecutioner sibling, but with a lighter body, lower ABV, and a touch of wood flavor from the bats.

Terrapin Chopsecutioner is available on draft year-round at Suntrust Park. New 16-ounce cans are hitting shelves around Georgia, March until June.

POG inspired Terrapin Luau Krunkles returns year-round

Terrapin Luau Krunkles

Terrapin Luau Krunkles, a tropically inspired India pale ale, will be offered year-round in 2018.

“Krunkles” is a fictitious character (perhaps real, depending on who you ask at the brewery) that travels the world looking for new India pale ales. The series has seen releases like Krunkles Down Under (all Aussie & New Zealand hops), Samurai Krunkles, and Dr. Krunkles.

Terrapin Luau Krunkles is inspired by a Hawaiian drink called POG. The beverage is brewed with passionfruit, orange, and guava. (Yes that same drink gave rise to the POG game of the 90’s.) In 2017 when the temperature started to rise, so did Luau Krunkles. The demand for POG is so high, the beer will be offered year-round this year.

Krunkles is back with another world renowned IPA inspired by this time spent on the Hawaiian Islands. Jam packed with tropical flavors of passionfruit, orange and guava, this “Hawaiian IPA” is brewed to accompany you to your next luau.

Terrapin Luau Krunkles is a 12 ounce can and draft release year-round, alongside Hopsecutioner (with new artwork), Hi-5, RecreationAle, Good to Gose, and Sound Czech Pilsner.

Style: IPA (w/ Passionfruit, Oranges, Guava)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: Fall, 2016.
Year Round: July, 2017

6.5% ABV

Ed Note: Luau Krunkles has already been available year-round in the brewery’s IPA Survival Kit

Artwork Refresh: Terrapin Hopsecutioner

Terrapin Hopsecutioner 2018

Terrapin Hopsecutioner, the brewery’s #1 seller, is getting an artwork refresh in 2018.

It’s been 7 years since Terrapin Hopsecutioner’s debut, quickly taking the number #1 seller spot just weeks after launch. According to Terrapin’s marketing director Julia Weckback, the “Killer IPA” needed a bit of an artistic touchup. The infamous executioner turtle isn’t going anywhere, or the hops he/she/it is splitting. The layout just looks cleaner and fresher.

“Our core IPAs are often on shelves together, and we wanted to ensure a cohesive brand image.” – Julia Weckback, Marketing Director

Terrapin Hopsecutioner grew 35% in 2017, and will soon be available to hoppy fans in Michigan and Wisconsin. Look for the new artwork on 12-ounce and 16-ounce cans starting in early 2018.

Style: IPA
Hops: Warrior, Centennial, Chinook, Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade (Dry-Hop)
Malts: 2 Row Pale, Munich, Pale Crystal 24L, Victory

Availability: 12oz Cans, 16oz Cans, Draft.

Nutella inspired Terrapin Moo-Tella truly delivers

Terrapin Moo-Tella Bottle

Terrapin Moo-Tella has joined the brewery’s Special Reserve Series.

This specialty lineup started in 2013 with a white chocolate edition of Moo-Hoo, Terrapin’s chocolate milk stout. After a heated round of fan voting, White Chocolate Moo-Hoo snagged a return to the series again (on shelves now).

Since White Chocolate, the series has grown to include dessert inspired releases like French Toasted Wake-n-Bake, and Tiramisu-Hoo.

Now for Terrapin Moo-Tella. The Nutella inspired beer uses their Moo-Hoo Milk Stout, brewed with Nashville based Olive & Sinclair cocoa nibs, and a touch of hazelnut syrup. Brewery co-founder “Spike” Buchowski chose the syrup route because of potential nut allergy issues. Don’t let that slow you down. Moo-Tell really delivers.

Terrapin’s Special Reserve Series milk stouts are a bit more robust and bold than their seasonal Moo-Hoo. As far as Moo-Tella is concerned, the beer truly delivers a Nutella-inspired experience. The nose is a blend of hazelnut and chocolate, with a creamy milk chocolate finish that becomes more and more like the dessert spread as it warms.

Our 2017 Reserve Series release ‘Moo-Tella,” is a Chocolate Imperial Milk Stout so decadent you could eat it with a spoon. The intermingling of Olive and Sinclair chocolate and the rich flavor of hazelnuts creates an experience so pleasurable it should be shared with friends.

Terrapin Moo-Tella is now available in16.9-ounce bottles hitting the market the week of November 12th.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Hazelnut. Cocoa Nibs. Lactose.)
Availability: 16.9oz Bottles. Limited Release.
Debut: November 2017

8.5% ABV

The fans voted, Terrapin White Chocolate Moo Hoo hits shelves again

Terrapin White Chocolate Moo Hoo bottle

Terrapin White Chocolate Moo Hoo has returned to shelves for only the second time ever.

The base beer uses cocoa nibs from Nashville, Tennessee’s Olive & Sinclair, plus a healthy helping of white chocolate. The end result is a decadent, creamy, dessert beer.

White Chocolate Moo Hoo has only seen one release despite previous plans to bring it back. For the 2016 election year, Terrapin gave their fans the opportunity to vote their favorite beer from the past back into production. We’re told White Chocolate Moo Hoo won by a landslide.

White Chocolate is our favorite specialty release by Terrapin. The white chocolate addition creates a really unique, almost esoteric flavor to this creamy dessert beer.

White Chocolate Moo Hoo is available in 16.9-ounce bottles for a limited time.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Cocoa Nibs, White Chocolate)
Availability: 16.9oz Bottles, Draft.

Arrival: 2017

6.1% ABV
