Second Self Beer Launches Cans
Second Self Brewing (Atlanta, GA) will release their first package offering, cans, this week. The brewery opened in fall of 2014, and has been draft only until now.
Using Toucan Mobile Canning, Second Self is packaging Red Hop Rye, and Thai Wheat, both year round offerings. A quick review of the brewery descriptions of each:
- Thai Wheat (5.1% ABV, 18 IBU) — a spicy American wheat beer brewed with fresh lemongrass and ginger.Suggested Pairings: fish, chicken, pork loin, grilled vegetables, sushi, and Asian cuisine.
- Red Hop Rye (7.3% ABV, 69 IBU) — a spicy rye mixed with citrusy hops, balanced by a malty backbone from American caramel & honey malts. This is a great example of an American hybrid of beer: a Red Rye IPA.
Second Self Thai Wheat will be available starting April 6th. Second Self Red Hop Rye cans arrive the following week, April 14th.

Second Self Citrus IPA Hits Taps
Second Self Citrus IPA is the Atlanta, Georgia brewery’s newest seasonal. Citrus IPA highlights winter citrus, which is fresh and in season, particularly orange peel and lemon.
An array of citrus hops help round of the beer’s favor.
Second Self Citrus IPA is a draft only offering this round. The brewery just expanded distribution to Athens, Georgia this week.

Second Self Brewing Can Launch: April
If the time tables hold, Second Self Brewing Company (Atlanta, GA) will release their first cans in April, 2015. The brewery opened their doors in November, 2014, with the immediate desire to can as soon as possible.
This week, Toucan Mobile Canning has been in house, testing 12oz can fills of Thai Wheat.
Second Self plans to can Red Hop Rye, Thai Wheat, and Saison this year.
As far as Georgia cans are concerned, SweetWater, Terrapin, Red Brick, Creature Comforts, Coastal Empire, Macon Beer Company, Red Hare, and Orpheus Brewing have cans in their lineup, with Wild Heaven and Monday Night to join the aluminum revolution in the near future.

Second Self Brewing Opens November 1st
Second Self Brewing will open their doors to the public on November 1st, 2014. The brewery has been in planning for five years.
While some of Second Self’s beers have already hit taps in the city, the tasting room opening will bring four new beers to the Atlanta beer scene:
Thai Wheat, 5.1% ABV, 51 IBUs. Brewed with lemongrass, galanga, and ginger.
Red Hop Rye, 7.3%, 69 IBUs. Red ale brewed with a blast of rye malt.
LIPA, 4.3%, 61 IBUs. A session (low ABV) IPA
Saison, 5.5%, 24 IBUs
Second Self’s offering will remain draft only. The brewery plans to bottle and can in early 2015.

Second Self Brewing Co. (Atlanta, GA) is on the cusp of opening in the city. As mentioned with Red Hop Rye, the brewery will launch 12oz cans as a part of the package lineup.
Expect Saison 2014 on draft and cans, presumable to be dated with each year’s release in the future. Good for those beer hoarders, or like me, buy, store and forget you had it.
