Monday Night Darker Subject Matter – a summer thriller

Monday Night Darker Subject Matter Can

Monday Night Darker Subject Matter,  a bourbon-barrel-aged edition of the brewery’s Dark Subject Matter, debuts today.

Back in March of this year, in a sea of pastry stout releases all over the United States in the dead of winter, the Atlanta based brewery bucked the national trend a bit. A big, rich, completely adjunct-free imperial stout known as Dark Subject Matter emerged. It was absolutely perfect winter beer – chocolatey, fudgy, thick as hell and silky smooth.

Debuting today (and less perfect for the summer heat) is the barrel-aged version of this imperial stout – Darker Subject Matter. This 13.5% alcohol by volume imperial stout with a murdery vibe is every damn bit that big beer we fell in love with in the winter, now with an oaky, vanilla bourbon overtone. The side of the can says HEAVIER THICKER OAK. Monday Night means it.

Go ahead and slam this beast by the pool or at the beach and definitely on an empty stomach after running a few miles. It’s always good to remind yourself that your bad decisions aren’t always behind you.

Either way, Monday Night Darker Subject Matter is a real treat, hot weather or no hot weather. Available at the brewery starting at 4 pm today in 16-ounce cans and draft.

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel-Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: 7/26/19

13.5% ABV

Monday Night Brewing to open Birmingham brewpub

Monday Night Birmingham Location

Atlanta based Monday Night Brewing has revealed plans to open a 3rd location, this time in Birmingham, Alabama.

The brewery will take up 10,000 square feet in Third & Urban’s Denham Building, a mixed-use project in Birmingham’s Parkside District. The build will have 30 taps, with beers from the “Hop Hut Series” from their Midtown location, and wild and sour ales from The Garage, Monday Night’s wild facility in Atlanta’s West End.

The brewpub will have a brewhouse, which hasn’t been finalized according to co-founder Jonathan Baker. “We’re still pricing it out,” he tells Beer Street Journal.

“We feel strongly about having a presence in Alabama. This was the first state Monday Night Brewing expanded to outside of Georgia, and our beer has been really well received, There’s so much energy in Birmingham right now. We jumped at the chance to partner with another innovative company in Third & Urban to expand to an awesome Southeastern city near and dear to our hearts.” – Jeff Heck, CEO

The new location is within walking distance to  Railroad Park, Regions Field, and a variety of bars and nightlife.

Expect Monday Night beers, wine, cocktails and “simple, sharable food” built for beer pairings.

The build is expected to be completed by the end of Q1, 2020.
