Heavy Seas 21 Anniversary Ale is slated for December

Heavy Seas 21 Anniversary Ale

Heavy Seas 21 Anniversary Ale will be a new entry in the brewery’s Uncharted Waters Series, marking over two decades of craft brewing.

To celebrate the Baltimore, Maryland based brewery’s 21st birthday, Heavy Seas 21 Anniversary Ale will be released. The base beer is an imperial Extra Special Bitter (ESB), brewed with rye malt and local Domino brown sugar, and aged in Sagamore Rye Whiskey barrels.

To celebrate our 21st Anniversary, we have created a Rye Imperial ESB brewed with imported UK malt, local Domino brown sugar, a powerful English Ale Yeast, and a blend of herbaceous British hops (to the tune of 65 IBUs). 21 was aged for sixty days in locally sourced, single use Sagamore Rye Whiskey barrels.

21 years is a strong milestone for Heavy Seas. In order to get to where the brewery stands today, founder Hugh Sisson got heavily involved in politics and changed some of Maryland’s restrictive laws. Every beer you drink from Heavy Seas is a testament to Sisson’s desire to bring great beer to Maryland.

Heavy Seas 21 Anniversary Ale will be a 22 ounce bottle and draft release.

Style: ESB (w/ Brown Sugar. Barrel Aged. Rye Whiskey.)

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Rye Wit, a collaboration with Terrapin

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Rye Wit

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Rye Wit, a collaboration with Athens, Georgia based Terrapin Beer Co. is coming this August.

First off, let me tell you Terrapin’s co-founder and brewmaster “Spike” Bucowski loves brewing with rye. Examples – Terrapin Rye Pale, Terrapin Rye Cubed, even the Terrapin/Left Hand Terra-ryezd from 2009. Don’t be surprised that this new collaboration has rye in it.

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Rye Wit is actually a barrel-aged rye wit, aged in white wine barrels for sixteen weeks. The added wine nuance to this beer is fairly unique for the style.

With aromas of light fruit, spice, and citrus, balanced by a spicy malt backbone, the third installment in the Partner Ships series is sure to delight the senses.

Look for Heavy Seas Partner Ships Rye Wit to hit shelves in August in 22 ounce bottles and draft for a limited time.

Heavy Seas Treasure Fest Oktoberfest debuts this fall

Heavy Seas Treasure Fest, a new Oktoberfest style beer, debuts this July.

Despite the late summer debut date, Heavy Seas Treasure Fest is still designed for fall. The Baltimore based brewery describes this new seasonal as an American spin on the classic German style. That means using traditional imported German malts, and weaving in a blend of German and American hops in the boil and dry-hop.

“…. I’m thrilled to be able to provide a Heavy Seas twist by dry-hopping our interpretation with floral American hops.  It should be no surprise to those familiar with our beers that we’ve boosted the malt bill and abv, to just under 6%, to help keep the robust hopping in balance.  If you like Oktoberfest-style beers and enjoy American IPA’s, this beer just might be the love child hybrid you’ve been waiting for.”  Heavy Seas Brewmaster, Christopher Leonard.

Heavy Seas Treasure Fest is a draft and 12 ounce bottle offering, seasonally.

Style: Oktoberfest

Malts: Pale, Vienna, Munich, Caramel Vienna, Biscuit, Caramel Munich

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Hoppelbock, with Troegs

Heavy Seas Partnerships Hoppelbock

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Hoppelbock is the latest the brewery’s “Partner Ships” Series in 2016. The first release was with Maine Beer Co.

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Hoppelbock is brewed with Hershey, Pennsylvania’s Troegs Independent Brewing. This aggressively hopped doppelbock earned it’s new name, Hoppelbock. Between beers like Troegs Nugget Nectar, and Heavy Seas Loose Cannon, the extra hops make perfect sense.

We’ve added copious amounts of spicy, floral German hops to a ready, rich malt base to create this expression of regional collaborative ingenuity. Employing a generous dose of locally malted barley and massive dry-hopping, this lager can only be categorized as a “Hoppelbock”.

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Hoppelbock is now a 22 ounce bottle, and draft release.

Style: Doppelbock
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: May, 2016

7.25% ABV

Heavy Seas Plank IV, the 4th in the series

Heavy Seas Plank IV

Heavy Seas Plank IV is the fourth offering to join the brewery’s unique “Plank Project” Series.

Heavy Seas started the Plank Project back in 2011. The project’s concept is to push the boundaries of what wood will do to the base beer’s flavor. The wood’s flavor has been altered/manipulated with heat for a more unique flavor transfer.

To create Heavy Seas Plank IV, the brewery aged a Belgian-style strong ale on four different wood styles that have been kilned, almost to the point of charring, including Poplar, Cherry, Jamaican allspice, Cuban cedar.

A deep garnet hued brew with rich caramel malt flavors dominate the nose and pallet. Fruity esters of plum, raisin, and dates abound,” says Christopher Leonard, Heavy Seas Brewmaster and Operations Manager.

Heavy Seas Plank IV is available in 22 ounce bottles in March and April in all 18 states the brewery currently distributes.

Style: Belgian-style Strong Ale (w/ Candi Sugar, Cane Sugar, Wood Aged)
