Goose Island’s En Passant Hit Taps

The second release in Goose Island’s  Fulton & Wood series is now available.  It’s based off a old fashioned cocktail.  This English Mild called En Passant will only be brewed once.  It is the second installment of the Fulton & Wood series that will only be available in the Chicago area on draft.  Brewed by Goose Island’s Joel, Keith, and Claudia, this ale was brewed with lots of rye and blood orange juice.  The beer was made to pair well with rye whiskey and thus is low in alcohol content at about 4% ABV.  The name, En Passant is French for “in passing” and is also a chess move that can only been used once in a game which matches this one time only brew well.

Style: English Mild
Availability: Released 4/9, Draft only.

4% ABV

Goose Island Georgia Launch Lineup

Goose Island Brewing is planning to begin distribution to Georgia sometime in the 4th quarter of 2012. (October – December.)  Below is a tentative lineup of beers Georgia can expect at the initial rollout:

Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.  Availability: 12/4 pks, Draft.

Wild in character, with a slightly fruity aroma and a spicy yeast flavor that is as unique as it is satisfying — Matilda is an intriguing choice for beer and wine lovers alike. Dry and quenching, it’s the perfect accompaniment at the dining table or for casually socializing at the bar.  Availability: 12 oz/ 4pks, Draft

Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.  Availability: 12 oz/4 pks, Draft.

With an aroma of roasted chestnuts and a mysteriously dark, mahogany hue, Pepe Nero is a farmhouse ale brewed with black peppercorns. His roasty sweetness melds into a lingering, earthy, black pepper finish that is ideal for pairing with grilled meats and roasted vegetables.  Availability: 12oz/4 pks. No Draft.

Goose Island Eyeing Georgia 4 Quarter Rollout?

It’s no secret that Goose Island Brewing was purchased last year by beer giant Anheuser-Busch.    As speculated, the acquistion was going to give Goose Island more brewing capacity (& more places to brew.)  Prior to the purchase last year, I visited the production brewery.   The brew house spends a good deal of time brewing 312 Wheat to keep up with demand.  Post purchase, at least some of the 312 Wheat -specifically cans, are now being brewed in Baldwinsville, New York at one of the Budweiser facilities.

I have learned today from a reliable source that Goose Island has plans to rollout draft in Atlanta in Quarter 4.   Again, draft only initially.    Leap frogging states?  Not the first for breweries (see most recently Finch’s Beer Co.)  There have been many Goose Island kegs showing up just to the north in Nashville.  The brewery is most certainly looking to get their “feet wet” in that state as well.  A friend just noted that you’ll probably see this happen in states that have big AB production facilities.  (i.e. Cartersville, Georgia)

More to come for sure.   Especially what beers & when.

Return Of Goose Island Nut Brown [Video]

Goose Island Brewing’s Nut Brown Ale has returned.  John J. Hall and Brett Porter talk about the beer and its accolades.  Interesting, it won an award at the World Beer Cup at 2010 and production of the beer was halted right after.
