Beer Mile gets first professional sponsor

If you are even half serious about running, you’ve heard of Brooks running shoes. When we are sober enough to run here at Beer Street Journal, we wear Brooks. Damn good shoe. The company’s newest spokesperson – 22 year old beer mile record holder, Lewis Kent.

Kent has broken the beer mile record twice, holding the currently record of 4 minutes, 51 seconds. This is the first professional sponsorship for the “beer running” sport.

The beer mile entails running a full 5,280 feet as fast as you can. Oh yeah, while consuming 4 beers. For Kent, the extra 4 beers adds around 36 seconds to his mile time.

Brooks Sports has not divulged the deal terms, other than it spans 2 years. The deal includes shoes, of course.
