Alabama bill to allow brewery growler sales passes state senate

SB211 aka “Growler Bill” passed the Alabama state senate yesterday, by a vote of 23 to 4. If Governor Bentley signs the bill, it would go into effect on June 1st, 2016.

This bill will allow patrons of the states’s breweries to purchase up to 288 ounces of beer in a growler, per person, per day, from the brewery’s tap rooms.

Additionally, the bill removes a stipulation that brewpubs could only open in counties that were wet prior to Prohibition.

  1. Do you know how many states now (and which) allow growler sales at production breweries, at brewpubs?

    • Was actually looking into that yesterday. I know Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia do not allow it currently. I believe West Virginia as well. Those are the same states with poor legislation surrounding breweries.

  2. This creates a good talking point for Georgia pro-legalization advocates. We can’t be worse than Alabama!
